Empowering and Celebrating Asian Women's Achievements on International Women's Day in Winnipeg

In celebration of International Women's Day, the Asian Women of Winnipeg are set to illuminate the city with their Women's Day Gala Dinner—an empowering and enriching event designed to uplift, connect, and inspire. This gala stands as a testament to the strength, resilience, and achievements of women, offering a full day of engaging speakers and breakout sessions. Meticulously organized by the Asian Women of Winnipeg, this event promises to be a beacon of empowerment, providing attendees with the tools and community support to propel them to new heights, both personally and professionally.

Sharan Tappia, President, of Asian Women of Winnipeg, said that the most interesting thing is that last year they celebrated all the women who presented at this event. “this year we celebrated and included our indigenous sister to extend our sisterhood. So, I’m so excited. We didn’t even know anybody in that community, so when we did make some phone calls and ask people who knew anybody in this community to nominate, we received so many nominations.

I’m glad that we have found two extraordinary women who will be inspiring us tonight about their successful journeys.”

Tappia added "I believe that women in Winnipeg had so much to offer, and they already did. They made so much difference in society by building homes and holding great positions in this province. This is so inspiring for young women and new immigrants. It gives them hope that they can make a home away from their homeland. Also, they can work hard and get recognized."

"I think we are so blessed to be in this country where we have so much freedom of speech and respect as minorities," said Tappia, adding, "We created in Canada a new home; there’s no other way, and there’s no other place in the world to do that.”

The camaraderie and resources exchanged within the confines of this gala lay the foundation for a future where women continue to rise, conquer, and thrive. The impact of this celebration extends far beyond the event itself, leaving an indelible mark on the spirit of empowerment in Winnipeg.
